EXPRESSIVE ARTS

Traditional Expressive Arts, coupled with EMPATHIC DIALOGUE as a reflective method, can be employed as a creative and transformative process to DISCOVER AND RE-BALANCE the personal S(s)elf.

THE IDENTITY QUEST  workshops offer a person an enhanced opportunity to create authentic and balanced S(s)elf expression in their daily living.

A specific definition of Expressive Arts refers to a wide class of forms and media including the visual arts, music, dance, theater, opera, cinema, and literary compositions.

However, any “expressive art” that meets the following criteria can also be included in the definition, if it
    * demonstrates the use of both the left and right “brains” in its creation
    * simultaneously engages many senses and is experientially based
    * requires the individual creation/production of  “something” perceptible to other humans
    * has a purposeful “creative motive", whether theoretical or practical, in the final usage of whatever is created
    * is independent of the need for external validation through psychic approval and/or money
    * generates inner feelings of S(s)elf satisfaction, fulfillment, enjoyment, accomplishment, and loss of “time”

The criteria that define EMPATHIC DIALOGUE are
  • interpersonal verbal dialogue in a non-judgemental space of trust and respect
  • open-minded dialogue that fosters personal S(s)elf examination of beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors as well as underlying thoughts and feelings
  • reflective S(s)elf inquiry that results in the formulation and conscious choice of personal Truth, and subsequent plan upon which each person can create an authentic personal expression in daily living
